Transition to Education

Providing Tools to Increase Novice Nurse Educator Confidence and Competence

The focus of the Transition to Education (TTE) program is to assist novice and existing faculty to move from the teacher-centered approach to one that is student-centered, inclusive, and promotes active learning. It provides skills and competencies to meet the learning needs of students in today’s ever-changing clinical environment. This course is designed to help faculty facilitate student learning by utilizing various modalities for both in-person and virtual environments.

This academic-year long program is augmented with a learning platform that will include individual learning practice assignments and is intended for sharing resources and creating a community of participants for ongoing support. The initial classwork is followed by small-group coaching to enhance and reinforce what was learned as participants begin to apply learned concepts.  By the end of the 24-hour, 6-part course, integration coaching, and practice assignments, participants walk away with 20 tools to help them gain confidence and competence as nurse educators. Up to 37 continuing education contact hours* will be awarded upon full completion of this program.

This project is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) under grant number D19HP30841, Nursing Workforce Diversity for grant amount $554,780.
